The Taurus Rhododendron is an impressive, high-impact shrub for year-round enjoyment. Deep red buds contrast nicely with handsome, deep green leaves. Mature plants bloom early to mid-season with large, glowing red flowers. Similar to Grace Seabrook, with larger stature. It is an excellent choice for foundation or hedge.
It thrives best in partial shade to partial sun and needs regular watering, weekly, or more often in extreme heat. It will reach 6ft tall and 4 to 5 ft wide. The key feature of this rhododendron is its showy deep blood red flowers which bloom in the spring. Consider using this shrub in an hedge, mass planting or as a wonderful accent to a woodland garden.
Provide an acidic, well drained soil, rich in organic matter. Mulch to keep roots cool, avoiding the crown. Protect from harsh afternoon sun. Follow a regular watering schedule during the first growing season to establish a deep, extensive root system. Feed with an acid fertilizer after bloom.
