Savoy Cabbage – Food & beautiful ornament in your garden.
Start your spring off right by planting Savoy Ace Cabbage in your garden patch. Maturing in Fall (80 days) to 3-4lb heads of delicious crinkly leaves with a tightly packed head in the center.
The Savoy cabbage not only grows into food, but also will become a beautiful ornament, like a flower made out of leaves, in your garden plot. It is time to harvest, when you noticed that one savoy cabbage (savoy is just a fancy way to saying crinkly leaves) will begin to flower. Once a plant flowers and goes to seed, it’s less delicious. We understand it will be hard to remove something so beautiful from the garden, but make sure you do it in time!
Savoy cabbage is considered by many to be the best eating cabbage. It has a delicate texture and a flavor much superior to smooth leaved cabbage. Savoy cabbage is not easily shipped so it is not as readily available as red or green cabbage. That is why it is best to grow it yourself.
Savoy cabbage is also called curly cabbage. It is named for the region where it is believed to have originated: the Savoy which straddles the Alpine regions of Italy and France. Because savoy cabbage is so tender, it requires much less cooking than other cabbage varieties.
